We're Zeppole Crazy!

Hot Italian Fritters dipped in Raspberry Sauce or Carmel Coffee Sauce. That’s a great way to begin a day, we think.

Officially, they’re for a ferociously celebrated Italian Holiday, Saint Joseph’s Day (March 19th), and they're called Zeppole di San Giuseppe, but we think they’re terrific everyday. Come celebrate Spring and fresh Zeppole at Wickwood!!!

Wyncroft Wickwood Wine Weekend

What do Alinea, The Rattlesnake Club, Charlie Trotter’s, Tapawingo, The Lark, The Rowe, Tribute, The Sierra Room and The Journeyman all have in common? Wyncroft Wines are on their Wine Lists! These are true treasures of the wines being made in America today.

Jim and Rae Lee Lester We first met Jim and Rae Lee Lester early last year in Wickwood’s own Garden Room and loved talking food and wine with them.. Then, several months later we tasted their wines!!! WOW! is the only word to be used for them. They are big gorgeous estate-grown single-vineyard appellation wines that are world class! The winemakers had been far too modest.

First it was their Chardonnay reminiscent of the Grand Cru Meursaults, Puligny-Montrachets and Cortons that we had enjoyed in Burgundy. You can describe it as buttery, carmely, a bit like Crème Brulee, but a WOW will suffice. We kept asking “How do you know how to make wines like these???” And in Michigan!!

And then we began to taste more. Their Avonlea and Madron Lake Rieslings, The Madron Lake Gewurztraminer , their Pinot Noir which is reminiscent of Chambertin and their Shou which is patterned after the wines of Paulliac and Magaux (remember when we could splurge on an occasional bottle of Petrus? ) Well you simply have to taste them to believe them!!! That’s where the restaurants come in.

You won’t find Wyncroft Wines in wine shops, only on the very best restaurant’s Wine Lists. That’s the way the Lester’s want it. And, by being on their Private customer mailing list where you can buy wines by the case only. www.wyncroftwine.com

Wyncroft Winery

And so, since we aren’t good at keeping secrets, we’re going to have a Wyncroft Wickwood Wine Weekend for wine lovers and aspiring wine lovers, one weekend in November. You won’t want to miss it. We know we’ll be there!!

To celebrate the Keewatin’s 100 Anniversary of her launching in Govan, Scotland, near Glasgow, the Petersons invite you to walk through a century of history aboard the last of the classic Edwardian passenger liners.  Sfoglia in New York and Nantucket

Sfoglia in New York And Nantucket
On a recent theatre trip we discovered this fabulous restaurant on Manhattans Upper East Side. Don’t miss it!! It’s a treasure and you’ll feel as though you’re in a trattoria in some small town in Italy. They say that “traditions begin in the kitchen and the aromas of simplicity are everywhere".

We dined there twice in two days and are going back every time we’re in NYC. Owners Ron and Colleen Suhanosky, both chefs, have incredible taste and style in food and décor. Every detail is perfect!!

And, you’ll swoon over the food!. It’s very tough to get a reservation for dinner --- but lunch is possible. We love to sit at the bar, but those seats need reservations too. Open for B-L and D. www.sfogliarestaurant.com
